Parliament speaker: No place for foreign powers in region

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that the transregional powers have always tried to create differences among regional countries.

Qalibaf made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Tehran on Sunday night.

"It has been proven to us that transregional countries never make decisions in the interests of Iran and Iraq, and that the two states should resolve their cases by depending on their own capabilities," Qalibaf said.

The Iranian parliament speaker, meantime, said that the widening of cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad has an impact on regional issues.

The Iraqi prime minister, for his part, emphasized the importance of Iran-Iraq relations for the region, and called for the expansion of bilateral relations.

"Continuous interactions and dialogue between the Iraqi and Iranian officials will immensely influence removing the possible barriers and strengthening cooperation," al-Kadhimi said.

Earlier on Sunday, Iran' s First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber said that cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad will help to restoration of stability in the region.

Mokhber made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Tehran on Sunday night.

Mokhber pointed to the capacities and capabilities of the two countries, specially in the economic field, and said that Tehran and Baghdad can further broaden their cooperation by relying on these capacities.

Referring to huge capacities and potentials of Iran’s public and private sectors, especially in the engineering sector, he voiced Iran's readiness to participate in Iraq’s reconstruction.

The Iraqi prime minister,  for his part, underscored the importance of Khorramshar-Basra railway which can connect China's railway to Mediterranean Sea, and said creating infrastructures such as roads can strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries and make the dream of Mashad-Karbala-Najaf highway come true.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday called for the implementation of Iraq's commitments on Iran's financial demands, noting that the further economic cooperation of Tehran and Baghdad will benefit the nations of both sides.

President Raisi made the remarks in a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in the capital of Iran.

The relations between the two nations go beyond the geographical and neighborly levels, he said, adding that nothing can damage the unshakable bond between the two nations.

President Raisi called for implementing the agreed projects, describing further mutual cooperation as instrumental for the regional developments.

Iranian President urged speeding up of implementing Basra-Shalamcheh railway project joining Iran to Iraq.

Tehran supports intra-regional dialogue without the intervention of the foreign states, Raisi pointed out.

He also called for the decisive investigation of the political and legal aspects of the assassinations of martyrs General Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis by legal and international bodies.

He called on the Iraqi side to pave the way for the Iranian pilgrims to take part in the Arbaeen ceremony.

Iraq had previously announced that the country would receive 30,000 pilgrims from Iran for Arbaeen.
